South America in 8 days! (and counting…)
It’s final: I’m leaving for South America on the morning of 21 March, flying indirect from San Francisco to Rio de Janeiro. The beginning of my itinerary is (very roughly) as follows:
- Rio de Janeiro 3/22-4/1
- Foz do Iguacu 4/1-4/4
- Brasilia 4/4-4/7
- Salvador 4/7-4/11
- Belem 4/11– travel down the Amazon River by boat (a hell ride, I’m told), reaching Manaus on 4/17
- Jungle trekking from Manaus 4/17-25 (exotic diseases unknown to Western science; insects the size of rugby balls)
- Sao Paulo & environs 4/25-5/4
- Move on to Argentina…
I’ve got my iPod; some clothes; my uber-manly Merrell hiking boots; a 1148-pg Lonely Planet guide; malaria pills; 2 packs of Bali Hais; and a wallet swollen with Brazilian reals. Everything a man could want.
Stay tuned… this is gonna be insane.
